NSW Mental health access

For acute mental health

The NSW Mental Health Line is a state-wide telephone number which puts you in touch with your local mental health service. Staffed by mental health professionals, the line gives NSW residents access to expert mental health advice, support and referrals for people dealing with a mental health problem and their families and carers. Where appropriate they can put you in contact with the local mental health crisis or acute care team.
The Mental Health Line also provides advice about clinical symptoms, the urgency of the need for care and local treatment options for health and care service providers.


Intake service

The intake service (CoHMET) is an initial point of contact for all people within the area. The intake team provides information about the mental health team as well as referrals to the most appropriate assessment and treatment services. Their core responsibility is to provide mental health triage, risk assessment, mental health assessment, care and behavioural
management for people experiencing a mental health disorder and who are at risk.

Lifeline is a national charity providing all Australians experiencing a personal crisis with access to 24 hour crisis support and suicide prevention services.

LGBTQIA+ based service

QLife provides Australia-wide anonymous, LGBTI peer support and referral for people wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.

They offer a phone line & webchat service between 3pm-12am
